UCLA – 100
A century is a monumental moment for any university, but UCLA is considered the youngest of the most influential. No other university has accomplished more in its first 100 years. And is currently ranked the #1 public university. It’s a pivotal moment in time. A chance to tell UCLA’s story on a world stage. To celebrate the first century of accomplishments, and articulate UCLA’s future trajectory for the next 100 years and beyond. A celebration of this size needed its own theme and narrative, to help everyone join the party. And, ultimately, ensure that we continue to shape the way people think and feel about UCLA for the better. The concept: Lighting the Way. We have come a long way, together. 100 years of persisting in all directions that lead to brighter tomorrows. An ideal moves us—the vision that each and every one of us can make a difference and move the world. Collectively, we decide to tackle the most important challenges of our time, and the grandest. In constant pursuit of progress, inspired by the dream of possible. Illuminating paths onward, for all. From 2019 to 2020, more than eighty community events and activities commemorated and celebrated 100 years of UCLA and its relationship with the great city of Los Angeles. Events ranged from community classroom pop-ups with UCLA experts in Downtown LA, to a 6–mile open streets celebration with CicLAvia, to a day of service led by the UCLA Volunteer Center with 100 sites around the world.
