About
Hello. Welcome to the Poorehouse. This site is dedicated to showcasing some of the work I have been fortunate to be involved with. First, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jim Poore. I am an executive-level, integrated branding and creative professional who has built and led teams for the most respected and influential brands in Higher Education and in Action Sports Apparel. I am known for creating brand platforms that thrive through emotional and relevant connections, and drive the bottom line. My diverse experience in both agency and in-house environments, balance inspiration with reality, and allows me to bring the best of both worlds to the table as needed, contributing to more than $8B in cumulative increased sales and market share. My years of experience have illuminated the importance of collaborating, consensus building and inspiring teams to unify, create focus, empower and go after common goals to maximize impact. As the former Chief Creative Officer and Sr Executive Director of Marketing for the multi-billion dollar brand of UCLA, I was responsible for developing a strong inhouse marketing team, creating a “brand standard” for UCLA unifying its decentralized tendencies, run an internal agency serving several campus units, and prepare for the university's ambitious $4.2B capital campaign. The University thrived, becoming the #1 Public University and unified more than it ever had within its first 100 years. The University grew from $5B to $8B, and the Centennial Capital fundraising campaign was more successful than anyone could of dreamed. We raised $5.4B, exceeding our goal and "raised the most money for a public university in the shortest period of time EVER". Prior to my time at UCLA, I partnered with Philadelphia based agency 160over90 to expand their footprint to the west coast. I was responsible for opening, building and managing the Newport Beach office. We resonated, grew quickly, and secured $4M in billings in a short period of time. The west coast office, focused on UCLA, Deckers, Quiksilver (ie Pirate Surf), Hang Ten, and International School of Beijing. We proved the concept of expansion, helping to set up the agency for an eventual $200M+ sale to William Morris Endeavor. Since my youth, I was enamored by counter culture and action sports. Always sun kissed, salty from surfing, or bruised from skating, I was fortunate to merge my creative brand building talents with cultures I was passionate about. I've worked with ROXY, Quiksilver, Vans, Billabong, Volcom, FOX, Activision...to name a few. At ROXY. I functioned as the marketing global creative director, built an incredibly talented art department, developed processes and workflows that united multiple departments, categories and regions throughout the globe. My team played a critical part in developing the ROXY brand fundamentals and we quickly put them into execution across the globe unifying the brand for the first time. Our efforts, helped ROXY grow from $200M to $750M in sales, and for a brief moment was the world’s largest action sports apparel brand. I’m a Southern California native. Graduated Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA (BFA with Honors). You can still find me raising my family and paddling at one of the beaches in Orange County, CA. I continue to work with partners who look to grow their business, take calculated risks, think strategically, and understand the importance of building brands that resonate beyond just a quick sale. Over the years I have had the good fortune to work with some amazing, talented and inspirational humans. Every relationship and opportunity has been a learning experience. Not always easy, but working together we have accomplished incredible things. Not just increasing sales, but increasing engagement, raising awareness, strengthening brand affinity, building support for...we have changed people's lives in meaningful ways, and changed trajectories for entire industries. Below are some things colleagues have said about me, my teams and our work.
