Anthem
Anthem delivers innovative, comprehensive content in the areas of fashion, music, film, art, design and travel. When Anthem first launched, its primary goal was to be a voice for its community—a platform for progressive culture. Focused on this mission, it grew into a category-leading, top selling publication in the lifestyle/culture market documenting those individuals forging their own paths. Anthem had a defined point of view, but was struggling to establish a standardized look and feel. They didn’t want to lose the organic quality of its content, and didn’t want to be perceived as mass market but wanted to be taken seriously by both the mainstream and niche market. The redesign developed a simple structured language which was both timeless and paid tribute to “news” periodicals from days past with a modern twist. The design embraced simple yet bold typography, established black as the dominant color, bold black bar devices, and wasn’t afraid to show confidence of content with use of negative space.*
